Whizizzle Phonics Review

The Whizizzle Phonics card game is for ages 4 and up. There are two different sets you can choose from. I enjoyed playing these with my daughter and she absolutely loves them. My son is too old for these and I could not interest him in trying them out. Too boring. I had no problem getting my 5 year old daughter to sit down and play.

The card game is similar to UNO, but your child has to match sounds and say the word on the card. My daughter has been struggling with rhyming words, and these card sets have been great in improving her rhyming ability. They also expand her word list without her realizing that this is what I am doing. As far as my little girl is concerned, we are playing a fun card game. I look at it as teaching her skills that she has been struggling with.

The decks of cards are designated 1, 2, 3,4, 5, and 6. The 1, 2, and 3 comes in one box and the 4, 5, and 6 are sold in a different box. Each level progresses in difficulty in matching sounds and word pronunciation. I love deck 3. It has the blended consonance words like sled, crab and spin. My daughter has trouble sounding out words that have a blended consonant beginning. These cards have helped a lot.

I think that these cards would be great to use as a visual aid with autistic children. You can work on expanding their reading vocabulary as well as matching colors, taking turns, and following rules. If your child is reading at a Kindergarten or first grade level, and is struggling, I recommend trying these cards. We are having a great time with them and I am sure you will too.
