101 Games and Activities for Children with Autism Book Giveaway Closed

Sunday, August 16, 2009

There are times when you just run out of ideas. Moms want to do activities with their child that are easy to put together, and can be accomplished with materials around the house. We want to do activities that are geared toward helping specific areas of development, yet still be fun. I like to think that I am really good at adapting activities for my son, but there are a lot of times that I find myself drawing a blank.

I was sent the book 101 Games and Activities for Children with Autism, Asperger’s, and Sensory Processing Disorders, written by Tara Delaney, M.S., OTR. The book covers gross motor skills, fine motor skills, social sense, communication, school ready and more. Each game is presented to the reader with location for it (indoor or outdoor), equipment list, and how to implement it. The author also tells you what areas the activity addresses. I recommend this book for parents, teachers and therapists that are in need of new ideas.

I like how interactive the games are in this book. They really promote one on one purposeful play. As you go through the book, you can pick out the activities/games that are appropriate for your child. One of my favorites, is the Soapy Finds. This activity is done in the bathtub , makes use of bubbles and it’s purpose is to promote communication, shape and color recognition, and sensory. My son loves bubbles and being in the bathtub. He knows his shapes and colors, but he has difficulty selecting items when asked. I don’t know why, but it is an area we have to work on and this is a great setting to do so.

Giveaway is for 1 book, 101 Games and Activities for Children with Autism, Asperger’s and Sensory Processing Disorders. This Giveaway will run from Aug17, 2009 to August 30, 2009. I'd love this book simply to find other ways to entertain my son than the ps2 and computer games. He loves to craft every now and then. I'd love to find activities that are more geared to his needs as a child with Aspergers.

Thanks for the giveaway, robin_hartman4@hotmail.com

I didn't know this book exsisted! What a cool book! I work in the school in PT. I know the OT, Speech, and Teachers would also love to read this book.

Some kids just need refining on their gross motor skills. I hope this book would help us in that area. If not, the OT's, Speech and Teachers would benefit.

I come from a small private (meaning no state funding besides the tuition the districts pay) and this would be very appreciated!!!

Thanks so much for this contest!

I am always looking for more games and activities to do with my students in a primary connections classroom. The same games day after day, are not only boring for the teacher, but also for the students. 3/4 students in my room have autism and are in grades K-2.
Thanks for the opportunity,
