Interactive Book Giveaway Closed

Books are important in my family. I do a lot of reading. I read for myself and I read with my kids. My son has a photographic memory. He can read a page before I have finished a paragraph. My daughter (6yo and entering first grade) struggles with reading. She knows a lot of words, but when she comes across one that she doesn’t know, it really frustrates her.

I noticed this a lot with the books I was sent from Interactive Book-Webscene (IBW). I had her read from the two KA Reader books that IBW sent me. The first book was Super Hero, KA Reader 1 by Trish Kline. She enjoyed this book. It was right at her level. She would read and then, when she got to where the website was listed, watched a clip on the computer that was relevant to what she had just read. I really liked the way the clips help with reading comprehension. Sometimes, when she reads, it seems like she is only reading the words and not understanding what she is reading. The clips allowed her to read and connect what she read to a visual.

The second book that we read was Coming Home, KA Reader 8 by Trish Kline and Mary Donev. This book was a little harder for her. She struggled with a few words and was becoming more frustrated as the story went on. The only thing that kept her at it, was that she had to read before she could watch a clip on the computer.

The main point of having your child read and then go to a designated website at the end of each section, is to encourage your child to read. I think that IBW is offering a great reading program for young readers. They also have a series of books called Celebration of Letters that I received to review. Each one contains two of the letter activities from the complete preschool curriculum called The Busy Preschooler’s Guide to Learning that’s built around all the letters of the alphabet. Busy Preschoolers has step-by-step guides to help parents teach 105 readiness skills kids need to enter school. In addition, online activities further the learning from the book. There’s also an online handwriting program to teach your child the the strokes needed for each letter. They have some books for older children, too. Currently, the highest grade level is 4th grade.

My daughter is at the KA Reader level. She will be entering first grade and her brother is reading at the seventh grade level and above. You can find out more about the IBW series at www.IBW-Books.com. They also have a program that allows you to make money selling their interactive books. It is called IBW Booksellers and you can read about it at www.IBW-Booksellers.com.
