Mamas Need Love, too

Hello to all mothers!  Today I am sliding my way through another migraine.  It’s the second one this month.  It made me think of all the other mothers out there who have health problems.  So, I decided to write a reminder about taking care of ourselves.

If you don’t take care of yourself, you are less likely to be at your best for taking care of your family.  Your child needs you.  Children and husbands often draw from the strength of us moms.  I know when my husband is having a bad day, he counts on me to give him the inner courage and guidance to get through it or to feel better at the end of the day.  Yep, that’s me, caretaker.

I honestly don’t know how my family survives sometimes without me as their shoulder to lean on. Arrogant?  No, as much as I love them, sometimes it’s just frustrating.  Mostly when I’ve had a bad day myself.  I admit, I have at times resented not having my own shoulder to lean on.  I mean, who wants to hear my petty little troubles when there are so many others who have it so much worse?  That’s one thing, ironically, that has also given me comfort in my down times.  There is always someone who has it worse.

But honestly, Moms, your own health is important.  Sometimes it takes an act of the Lord to get other people to understand this, but I guess I am my own worst enemy when it comes to taking care of myself. I finally learned that I don’t have to feel guilty for the little pleasures I get out of life.  I need them.  They keep me going.  I work hard to try to make everyone else feel better, but I had to teach myself to make me feel better.

God loves us all.  We have to love ourselves, too.
