I cried when I read this this story online and watched the video.
On July 4, 2010, 9 year old severe Nonverbal Autism boy Sheamus Jones had his communication device, a “Mini-Merc” stolen. It was left in the family car while they were watching fireworks. The car was broken into and the “Mini-Merc” was stolen.
Communication devices are extremely expensive. It can take years to get one. I’ve been waiting almost two years for one for my nonverbal son. The family doesn’t care about pressing charges, they just want it returned. My heart goes out to this little boy. He has lost his voice. I wish I could help this family. This just breaks my heart.
that is so ridiculous!! I cannot believe (well, sadly I can!) that would happen. Some people just don’t care.

I hate hearing about things like this but hope and believe in Karma.

That makes my heart hurt. But I’m with Heather – I totally believe in karma. What goes around, comes around and sometimes, twice as fast.

Good grief!!! How horrible. I can’t help but wonder if the thief even knew what it was for. Horrible.
I wonder if it would be covered under their auto insurance. I hope they went on the local news about this. Maybe if someone local heard the story, they might have a chance of getting it back. It is a sad world we have right now.
The only hope I can hold to is that the person stealing it really needed it, otherwise they’re just scum. I hope that they have help to get it replaced.

That breaks my heart – as a SPED teacher I know how valuable these are and how much they are needed plus how hard they to get your hands on! This is so sad!

UGH! I bet whoever took it thought it was some kind of hi tech thing… I hope someone is able to help this little boy get another one, or by some stroke of luck the people figure out what they took and find a way to get it back to him!!!
