Have you heard about the Communication Shutdown for Autism? It will be held on November 1, 2010, and it means no Twitter or Facebook for that day. In order to participate, you need to make a small donation to benefit autism. You can find the full details on the https://communicationshutdown.org/ Website.
After reading about the Communication Shutdown for Autism, I started thinking. How about uniting all bloggers for the same day? All bloggers, no matter what you blog about, can take November 1, 2010 to show their support of autism awareness. Each blogger will post one article about autism. It will be up to the blogger what to write about.
Did you know that 1 in every 110 children are diagnosed with autism? Even if you do not have a child with autism, chances are, you know someone that does.
If you would like to participate, please link your blog below. Then grab the button above and place it on your blog. Let’s show everyone how powerful bloggers are when we come together for a cause.

Many people with autism, and their allies, think the communication shutdown is a bad idea.
I’ve collected a list of those who will not be shutting down.

I’ve added this post to the list.
Twitter users can follow two hashtags #AutisticsSpeakingDay (for people with autism participating in social media on November 1) and #AutismShoutOut (for autism allies on the day)
The Coffee Klatch (TCK) will be hosting a 24 hour autism event: Communicate to Educate

Hi,
I’m Marianne and I’m part of the Communication Shutdown Team. I just wanted to let you know that we fully support your blogging idea and would love to share your experiences with our supporters. Although our executions are paradoxical, I believe we have the same goal to encourage understanding and acceptance in the wider community. We would really like to give your voice more reach, while at the same time giving our supporters a deeper understanding of autism.
We will keep an eye on your blog and with your permission, we hope to share any of your positive experiences or challenges with our supporters when they get back on November 2. As well, please feel free to email me at marianne.harvey@communicationshutdown.org
Many thanks and hope you have a great day on Monday.
Glad to hear you understand where those of us Blogging for Autism tomorrow are coming from! Although we’re taking different approaches, it’s clear we all want the same positive results for our kids (and other loved ones) in the autism spectrum. Let us wish each other luck!

I’m happy to be a Mom Blogging for Autism tomorrow. I like the idea of uniting bloggers to show solidarity for families with people in the autism spectrum (like ours) much better than a Communication Shutdown. It’s better to give a voice to this issue than silence it. Also, on the practical side, I work at a computer and my duties involve Twitter and Facebook. I look forward to doing my bit to help out however I can!

BTW, your URL for the image is bad. And your page is javascript-blocked so I can’t get to the code to see where the one you’re using is actually found.
The valid URL is

Thanks, Dorian. I fixed the link and have unblocked the javascript for this blog hop.

I’m planning on doing an autism blog, but I just can’t get behind the puzzle-piece banner. Can we have a non-puzzle-themed version? I’d even be willing to make one using one of the alternate autism symbols (like the rainbow Möbius strip).
Thanks for making this happen…. This is getting good!
