My son doesn’t play with toys. At least, not the way other children do. When I buy toys for my son, I don’t shop for them thinking “What would he like to play with?” Instead, I think “What skill can I use this toy to work on with my son?” Fun and Function takes the guess work out of what toys work on what skills. Not only do they have autism toys, they also have multisensory therapy equipment that you can use in your home.
Autism Toys For Children
One of my favorite items on the Fun and Function website is the 30 Finger Crayons. These crayons are thicker than normal crayons, which makes them easier for your child to hold. They are great for autistic children that are just learning how to write. There are small parts, so you need to monitor your child with these. The crayons themselves come apart, so that you can stack them differently.
When my son was younger, he was a chewer. He would chew his fingers and his shirt collar. It was difficult to break him of that habit. On the Fun and Function website, I noticed the Cool Chews Butterfly. It comes in different colors, and can be placed on the top of a pencil, or placed on a necklace. This is for moderate chewers, not aggressive chewers. My son was both, depending on his anxiety level. I think this would have helped us.
The next item I noticed on the Fun and Function website is one of the multisensory equipment items they have. It’s the Round Carpet Swing. My son used to use this in therapy. He loved it. His OT would start him off on the swing before they started working on his goals. It would calm him, and help him focus on his task.
There are a lot of great items on Fun and Function for autistic children. Whether you need autism toys for teaching your child fine motor skills, gross motor skills, or multisensory therapy items to help calm and focus your child, you will find them there. If you have any questions about what items are best for your child, you can also contact them for assistance. You don’t have to guess.
