Renting Textbooks and Operation Smile Donations

Renting Textbooks and Operation Smile Donations

It’s been about 16 years since I have bought textbooks for college.  Back then, they were expensive.  These days, they still are.  I went onto Amazon to find out the cost of an Accounting text book.  The lowest price for the one I searched on was $179.  I then went over to, and checked the cost of renting the same book.  For 130 days, the cost to rent it is $29.88.  If you allowed 7-14 days for delivery, you get free shipping.  They also have free return shipping.

Renting books for school is a new concept for me.  I didn’t have the option when I was attending college.  I had to buy my books, and hope that I received at least 10 % back when selling them to the bookstore at the end of the semester.   You can rent your books from, and the cost depends on how many days you need them.   If you have books stacking up at home, you can also earn money by having them rent your books out for you.
How does it work?: also gives back to charity.  For every book that is rented, a donation is made to Operation Smile.  Operation Smile is an international organization that provides evaluations and surgeries for children with facial deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palate.  Operation Smile provides help to children in over 60 countries.

I’ve seen the commercials on television for Operation Smile.  I think they do amazing work.  As a mom, nothing is more important to me than the happiness of my children.  I also believe that children should be proud of who they are, and not care about their appearance. It’s who they are on the inside that counts.   There are situations when that is a difficult thing to teach a child.  A child born with a facial deformity, like a cleft palate, is difficult to accept.  To have that fixed isn’t an act of vanity, like fixing a crooked nose.  I believe it will improve the child’s quality of life.  We all have it within ourselves to accept the things we can not change, to make the best of what we have.  When someone comes along and offers to help, that is a miracle you can give your child.  I think it’s great that helps provide these miracles by partnering with Operation Smile to provide surgeries for children in need.
