Re-purpose Sewing Machine Drawers For Shelves

Re-purpose Sewing Machine Drawers For Shelves

I have an old sewing machine desk that I was going to put out by the curb.  I have it out on the carport right now.  I was looking at it yesterday, and noticed how solid the wood is.  I was thinking that there had to be something I could do with it.  This morning, I woke up thinking about it.  An idea came to me about re-purposing the drawers.

The drawers would make really good shelves in the kid’s bathroom.  I did an online search for “repurpose sewing machine drawers”, and found a lot of pictures on Pinterest.  I re-pinned two of them that I liked.  There is very little counter space in the kid’s bathroom.  Now that my daughter is getting older, she needs more space for her stuff.  I can’t afford to go out and buy shelves or organizers for the bathroom.

I watch a lot of shows where they will take something and re-purpose it to meet their needs.  The sewing machine desk is well made.  The wood is in good condition, it just needs a make-over.  I don’t have the room in my house for the desk, which is why it is now outside.  I can sand down and paint the drawers.  Once I figure out how to attach them to the wall, they will work great for organizing my daughter’s things in the bathroom.  I’d also like to put a couple in the kitchen for organizing my spices.  That should leave at least two for the living room, to serve as storage for the different remotes and other items.

Now I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the sewing machine desk.  The top flips out, to give it a long surface to work on.  There has to be something I can do with that.  I’m thinking that I could take the sewing machine desk apart, and make use of all that good wood.  I’ll do another internet search for ideas, after I finish the project with the drawers.  I also need to get the walls in the bathroom painted before I put anything up on the walls.  I have to wait until my husband gets paid next week.  I have Killz and white paint.  I need to buy the rest of my supplies, which won’t cost much.  I also have some spots that need to be sanded.

It’s Friday!  I won’t be blogging on Saturday or Sunday.  I’m going to keep my weekends blog-free.  I’d like to focus only on my family.  I have a great opportunity that I will be sharing with everyone next week.  It will include information about an upcoming giveaway that I will be doing.  Have a great weekend, and enjoy your family.
