Things have been going great! My daughter had a little problem with making friends the first week of school. I told her to be patient, it’ll happen. The second week went a lot better. She made a couple new friends, and is now really happy with her new school. She was a little disappointed that she wouldn’t be allowed to do any of the school’s team sports. Sixth graders aren’t allowed to join. She has to wait until next year.
My son has settled into the new school year. His teacher sent home a list of classroom supplies, and I had fun shopping for them. It was a wish list of items, not a list of required supplies. For the high school students, the focus is on daily living skills. They like to do a lot of cooking with the kids, but the budget doesn’t allow for the teacher’s to buy the supplies needed to cook with the kids.
My son really loves helping in the kitchen. He had a lot of fun learning how to cook some things last year. I really wanted to do what I could to ensure that he would be able to continue his cooking lessons this year. The supplies list was half baking items and half cleaning supplies/disinfectants. I bought some Lysol and disinfectant wipes, (bulk) and all the baking items on the list. I bought several bags of flour and a huge bag of sugar. I also bought the mixes and frostings that were on the list. I also added a few things that were not on the list. Every baker knows you have to have baking soda, vanilla, and baking powder. I also picked up brown sugar, powdered sugar and cocoa. The list had asked for all types of sugar, but not the other things. Needless to say, his teacher was very happy to get the baking supplies.
I need to spread the word, with my family, to add some baking supplies to their shopping carts each time they go grocery shopping. If they do that, by the time my son’s teacher sends out a request for more, they will have a nice stock-up of items for me to collect.
I’m still working on the bathroom. It’s taking a lot of coats of Killz to cover that awful purple. I’m hoping to have that part done this week, and to be able to start with the white paint this weekend. Hopefully, it will only take one coat of the white paint. If I was working on it everyday, I could have had the bathroom done last week. But, I haven’t been. I’m not in a rush to get it done. I work on it when I’m in the mood. There’s a benefit to being the mom in charge of all things in the house. I set my own time table for when things get done, or not get done. Thanks to my depression meds, I have been wanting to get out of the house a lot more. That means that I have less time in the house to get things done. It also means that my family is happier, because they like getting out of the house with me. I am really enjoying my life now.
